In Attendance: Brenda J. Myers, Melvin Magwood, Rich Schiliro, Darrell Chambers, Brandon McGoogar (student), S.B. Fields, Jakki Dawkins, Elizabeth Adams, Dr. Carolyn Prince, Sherri free, Mary Fleetwood, Lalita Y. Ashley, Beth DeHart, Stephanie McCummings.

Rich Schiliro calls the meeting to order. Brings the group’s attention to May 1st, which are Law Day and the activities that Mt. Pleasant participates in. Mr. Schiliro asks does anyone else utilize this day. His kids observe courtroom activities. Hands out law day planning guide. Beth DeHart lets the group know what the National Youth Court Center sends out Via E-Mail announcements for YC activities. They continue with a list Attorneys that would be willing to volunteer with YC. That is a project in the works.

Ms. DeHart Points out the crime to court booklets and instructs the group that this is a great training tool for new and existing Youth courts. Also a video to accompany the booklets.

Mr. Schiliro describes the Youth Court Association seal. It is discussed that the logo be place on a bag of some sort and everyone needs to email Ms. DeHart on how many they would like to order before the next meeting.

Mr. Schiliro informs the group about the mini-Bar exam that he gives the kids participating with the Youth Court in his area he could use the Bag as a gift for the Youth Court kids.

Sherri Free shares what she does for her Youth Group.

Ms. DeHart lets the group know about Street Law for Youth Courts. The NYCC provides the curriculum and training material at no cost. Useful for training topics.

Ms. DeHart lets the Association know about Mock Trial competitions is one of the programs that the LRE division of the SC Bar sponsors. We would like to expand they’re skill base competitive recognition it could add a lot of richness to your Y.C. staffs.

For the smaller courts I will be happy to come help you work this in to your program.

Middle School Competition is in November, High School is in February, State Mock trials are in March and National Mock Trials are in May.

The discussion continues on how the Mock Trial process works.

Open Discussion around the room on special events for the groups

Beth had prepared a packette the structure of juvenile records and destruction and statue.

Youth Court process assessment. I pulled the statues it is not a clear-cut answer

It has a lot to do with how your court is consider in your jurisdiction. Hopefully by next meeting we will have a better response.

Mr. Schiliro instructs the group to open booklet to Gang Model training Concerning youth gang violence Conference. National Youth Gang Center. There will be regional trainings.

There is a disussion about the participations with the YC are not given the opportunity

For Arbitration or PTI programs due to corporation issues.

Open discussion about the activities their groups are involved in.

It is suggested that a picture be taken of each YC groups for record planning on August.

A copy of the mini-bar exam was requested. Beth will distribute via e-mail. Sharing scripts with new YC. It will be compiled in to a document and distribute also.

Rich Schiliro explains the scripts are updated every year.
